"With the unity of women, we can guaranty our rights in new Syrian constitution"

A member of the Women's Council in the Democratic Union Party (PYD), Sherin Oso, spoke to ANHA agency about women's rights in the new Syrian constitution and the protection of the revolution's gains.

Shirin Oso pointed out that women played a pioneering role in all aspects of life during the July 19th revolution, and she said, "We have been working at the highest level and fighting our struggle for years, and we will continue to fight."

"With the unity of women, we will ensure women's rights."

Sherin Oso continued her speech, saying: "We did not reach this day easily; tremendous efforts were made." We worked hard to organize ourselves and achieve our independence. Kurdish, Druze, and Alawite women in Syria must form their own unity to express their identity and fight against the mentality of oppression with their unity, and to secure their place in the constitution. And to ensure their rights in the new Syria, they must take on their responsibilities, and this can only be achieved thru hard work.

She added: "No one has the right to decide the fate of women's freedom and rights; it is the women themselves who must decide that." It is true that there will be many reactions and numerous difficulties in this process. But in the face of all these difficulties, our decision to unite the women of Syria must be steadfast. We must accept our existence with one voice and one identity.

"The woman must act with her consciousness"

Sherin Oso pointed out the presence of women in many positions of the interim government, but what is the mentality with which these women act? She said, "In many places, there is representation of women, but we must be aware of that." Do these women act with a male mentality, a religious mentality, or an oppressive system mentality? Women should act according to their own uniqueness. It should be defined, because by doing so, they are ignoring the rights of Syrian women.

"Women will defend the achievements of their revolution"

Sherin Oso emphasized that protecting the gains of the revolution and women is not only the duty of Kurdish women but also the duty of all Syrian women. She said, "Women in Rojava, Kurdistan have achieved numerous accomplishments, thanks to the martyrs." It is the duty of women to protect these achievements. A strong unity and mutual acceptance must be built among all nations.

She concluded her speech by saying, "Our people and women must unite with confidence and acceptance and protect the gains of their revolution." Women must see themselves as responsible. They should also support the Women's Protection Units and the Internal Security Forces (Asayish).
