WHO expresses shock over killing of more than 460 people in El-Fasher

The World Health Organization (WHO) expressed deep shock over reports that more than 460 people were killed in Sudanese city of El Fasher, following attacks carried out by forces affiliated with the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and the abduction of several health workers.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has expressed deep shock and outrage over reports that more than 460 people were killed in Sudanese city of El-Fasher, following attacks reportedly carried out by forces affiliated with the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), as well as the abduction of several healthcare workers.

In a post on the platform X (formerly Twitter), WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said:

“The World Health Organization is appalled and deeply shocked by reports that more than 460 patients and companions were killed in El-Fasher following recent attacks, along with the abduction of several health workers.”

The incident comes amid escalating violence in Sudan, where ongoing clashes between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the RSF have raised international alarm over the targeting of medical facilities and healthcare personnel in conflict zones.

WHO reiterated its call for an immediate ceasefire and the protection of hospitals, medical workers, and civilians caught in the crossfire.
