Violence escalates, security chaos witnessed in Syria

Syria has recently witnessed a rapid escalation of violence and security breakdowns, ranging from armed attacks and clashes to Israeli incursions and widespread popular protests, at a time the Transitional Government maintains near-total silence, issuing no statements or taking any steps to control the escalating chaos.

In Homs, groups of Bedouin from the Bani Khalid tribe launched armed attacks on predominantly Alawite neighborhoods in the city and its countryside, resulting in civilian casualties and the displacement of dozens of families in recent days. Residents reported the use of medium weapons and sniper fire, with the Transitional Government completely absent from any intervention to de-escalate the tension or protect the population.

Simultaneously, protests have spread to the Syrian coast, with large demonstrations in Latakia and Tartus condemning the Transitional Government's failure to maintain security and improve living conditions. Protesters chanted slogans holding the government responsible for the security and economic collapse, demanding federalism and decentralization, and rejecting violence. Similar gatherings took place in Homs and Hama, demanding an end to sectarian attacks and the punishment of those involved, with widespread participation of civil activities.

In response to this public anger, supporters of the Syrian transitional government organized a march that featured slogans with a sharply sectarian character, targeting various Syrian groups, from Alawites to Kurds and Druze, raising concerns about the public discourse slipping further into polarization and societal division.

Southern Syria has also witnessed repeated Israeli incursions, most notably the recent raid on the town of Beit Jinn in the Damascus countryside, just a few kilometers away from the capital. This raid resulted in the death of at least fifteen Syrians and injuries to twenty others. The incursion was accompanied by intensive Israeli air activity. The Syrian Transitional Government has maintained complete silence, offering no explanation of its position or response, and issuing only timid condemnations at times. This silence is compounded by the complete absence of the Transitional Government Forces in these areas.

Furthermore, the Transitional Government Forces continue their attacks on the Internal Security Forces (Asayish) positions in the Sheikh Maqsoud neighborhood of Aleppo and on the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) positions in Deir Hafer, Raqqa, and Deir ez-Zor. The Sheikh Maqsoud neighborhood in Aleppo has witnessed repeated attacks on Asayish checkpoints, while SDF military positions in Deir Hafer, Raqqa, and Deir ez-Zor have been subjected to a series of attacks in recent days.

Amid this security breakdown and escalating tensions, the Transitional Government in Syria remains conspicuously silent, offering no clear vision for addressing the security breach or taking any concrete steps to protect civilians.

With increasing popular pressure and rising tensions in various regions, concerns are growing that the country may enter a new phase of chaos and division if this "official silence" continues and no real action is taken to curb it.
