During a visit to Daraya city in Syria on Saturday, the Amnesty International Secretary General Agnès Callamard called for disclosing truth, achieving justice, and providing reparations as essential steps to address the legacy of human rights abuses witnessed in the country over the past years.

She explained that "democracy is still lacking, and current developments are promising beginnings, but they are not yet deep enough to guarantee a genuine and sustainable transition."

Callamard concluded by emphasizing that achieving full justice requires an explicit acknowledgment of the abuses, accountability for those responsible, and reparations for the victims. She asserted that these steps are fundamental to any genuine national reconciliation process.
