The Zenobia Women’s Gathering in Raqqa Canton, North and East Syria, issued a statement to the public condemning the ongoing violations against women in Syria, following the disappearance of two young women in recent days on the Aleppo road.

The statement was read by Khaloud al-Faraj, a member of the council in Raqqa Canton, in the presence of a large number of women, members of women’s organizations, activists, and rights defenders, in front of the gathering’s building in Raqqa city.

The statement explained that Haifa Adel Tayar, from Kobani, disappeared while traveling to visit relatives in the Sheikh Maqsoud neighborhood of Aleppo, after being stopped at a checkpoint of the Syrian transitional government on the Deir Hafer–Aleppo road. Meanwhile, Norhan Jalal al-Sarhan, from Derik, went missing during her trip to Raqqa after mistakenly heading toward the Deir Hafer area.

The gathering placed full responsibility for the safety of the two young women on the Syrian transitional government in Haifa’s case and on the mercenaries of the Turkish occupation in Norhan’s case, demanding the immediate disclosure of their fate and ensuring their safe return to their families.

The statement also called on human rights bodies and humanitarian organizations to urgently intervene and investigate the circumstances of the two incidents, stressing that such violations have been repeated in the region and pose a direct threat to the safety of civilians, especially women.

The Zenobia Women’s Gathering concluded its statement by stressing that it is closely following the two cases and will continue its efforts until the safe return of Norhan and Haifa to their families.
