Democratic Islam Conference: Syria’s social peace at risk

The Democratic Islam Conference affirmed that the current situation in Syria threatens social peace and raises the risk of divisions based on sectarianism. It stated: "Those who rule Syria today are a Salafi-Jihadist regime built on the foundations of political Islam, which exploits religion for its own interests to pit communities against each other, far removed from true Islam, which is based on justice and tolerance."

Today, the Democratic Islam Conference held a meeting in the town of Çil Agha in Jazira Canton, during which it presented its political vision regarding the Syrian scene. The meeting was attended by religious and social figures, members of civil institutions, female members of the Kongra Star, and representatives of political parties.

The meeting began with a moment of silence in honor of the martyrs, followed by a reading by Sheikh Sinan Sidoush, head of the Al-Bayt Association and member of the Democratic Islam Conference in North and East Syria region, of a message from Leader Abdullah Ocalan addressed to the sheikhs and dignitaries of Arab tribes. In his message, he called for unity, solidarity, and brotherhood among peoples under the umbrella of the Democratic Nation.

Following that, Sheikh Sinan Sidoush read the Democratic Islam Conference’s vision for a new Syria, emphasizing that Syria belongs to all, and every Syrian, regardless of affiliation, sect, or ethnicity, has the right to participate in building the country and determining its future.

Sidoush noted: "From our perspective, we see that the Charter of Medina, based on justice, tolerance, and love, is the solution for building a democratic Syria in which the rights of all citizens are protected without racial discrimination. Excluding any group from building a democratic Syria contradicts the principle that religion should play an educational role, promoting tolerance and love while rejecting discord and fighting based on sectarian or tribal divisions, as we see today in Syria."

He stressed that the current situation in Syria threatens social peace and raises the risk of sectarian divisions, stating: "Those who rule Syria today are a Salafi-Jihadist regime based on political Islam, which exploits religion to pit communities against each other, far removed from true Islam, which is based on justice and tolerance."

Sheikh Sidoush clarified that the vision put forward by the conference aims to restore religion to its natural role, whose noble message calls for coexistence, protection of diversity, transforming differences into strength, unity against aggressors, and safeguarding religion from exploitation and becoming a tool for dominance and division.

Abdul Karim Sarukhan, Head of Joint Administration and Organization at the Democratic Islam Conference in North and East Syria, explained the differences between Democratic Islam and political Islam, which today is used as a means to impose dominance and sow division among the Syrian people.

Sarukhan affirmed: "True democracy exists within Islam, where dialogue, discussion, and negotiation were the foundations of interaction during the time of Prophet Muhammad and his companions. This shows us the real foundations of democracy at that time, which we advocate today."

The floor was then opened for discussion, during which participants confirmed that the Democratic Islam Conference’s vision is the most accurate, aligning with the principles of true Islam. This vision is considered a guarantee for building a democratic Syria based on love and justice, a homeland for all Syrians without exclusion or discrimination.
