Two killed, eight wounded in clashes in Sweida

A statement issued by the Command of the National Guard Forces in Sweida revealed that two people were killed and eight others injured, some in critical condition, following clashes between National Guard forces and members affiliated with the transitional government in the province.

According to the statement, transitional government forces continued their attacks on Jabal al-Arab and its surrounding areas, using mortar shells, heavy machine guns, and drones, in what were described as repeated and indiscriminate assaults targeting civilians and their property.

The statement explained that the town of Atil was subjected, from the late hours of last night until dawn today, to mortar shelling fired from the towns of Rima Hazem and Al-Mansoura, resulting in the deaths of two people and the injury of eight civilians. The town’s western axis was also targeted by similar shelling originating from Tal Hadid, causing damage limited to private property.

The command added that the Civil Prison and Transport axes also witnessed attacks with heavy machine guns and mortar shells, confirming that these assaults did not lead to any change in the field situation. The statement noted that National Guard forces responded to the sources of fire, disabling two vehicles equipped with 23 mm machine guns, in addition to targeting a mortar launch platform.

The statement concluded by affirming that all axes remain under control and that National Guard forces are in a constant state of readiness to respond to any attack or ceasefire violation, within the framework of protecting the population and defending the area.
