Two buses were shot at in Daraa

Two civilian buses carrying passengers from Sweida to Jaramana were fired upon by transitional government forces while crossing from Daraa, resulting in a number of injuries, including serious injuries, in addition to injuries among children and women.

This incident comes days after a civilian convoy carrying relief supplies from Jaramana to Sweida was attacked by armed men in the eastern Daraa countryside, within areas controlled by the transitional government forces in Syria, on August 13.

The attack resulted in the kidnapping of volunteers and the seizure of vehicles carrying food parcels.

According to local and media sources, an armed group intercepted the convoy near a transitional government forces checkpoint and kidnapped the volunteers and their vehicles.

The sources indicated that three of the volunteers were released, while five remain detained. They are: Abed Abu Fakhr, Fidaa Azzam, Samir Barakat, Yamen al-Sahnawi, and Radwan al-Sahnawi, all from Jaramana.

Local sources also reported that transitional government forces opened fire on Friday on two vehicles traveling on the Sweida-Beirut road, killing a woman named Nada Adel Amer. The sources explained that the incident occurred in the Kahil area, after the Giza checkpoint in Daraa, as the two vehicles were traveling from Sweida to Beirut via the only corridor leading to Damascus.

These repeated incidents reflect the extent of the risks faced by Sweida residents when passing through rural Daraa, in addition to the continued threats posed by militants to personal safety and the safety of relief convoys. This exacerbates the fragility of the humanitarian situation in the region and places civil society under additional pressure in the absence of effective security guarantees.
