Turkish Police attack Newroz Celebration in Kocaeli, arrest 8 people

The Turkish police attacked crowds of Kurdish people celebrating Newroz in the city of Kocaeli, arresting eight participants and assaulting Ömer Yıldız, the Co-Chair of the Equality and Democracy Party of Peoples in the Gebze area, who was taking part in the celebration.

Turkish police arrested several Kurds celebrating Newroz in the Kocaeli district of Istanbul Province in northwestern Turkey.

According to the Furat news agency, the Turkish police attacked the Newroz celebration crowds and detained eight Kurdish participants.

The Equality and Democracy Party of Peoples organized a public Newroz celebration in the “Millet Bahçesi” park in the Darıca area of Kocaeli.

Police also assaulted Ömer Yıldız, Co-Chair of the Equality and Democracy Party of Peoples in the Gebze area, causing injuries to his face during the attack.
