Turkish authorities seize another municipality in N. Kurdistan

The authorities in Turkey have seized the municipality of Kazman in Kars, North Kurdistan, by appointing a trustee after sentencing the municipality's co-mayor, Mohammad Alkan, to six years and three months in prison on February 20. This move is part of the ongoing political tensions and efforts to assert control over local administrations in the region.

The Turkish Ministry of Interior appointed a trustee to the Kazman Municipality, which was previously administered by the Equality and Democracy of Peoples Party. The appointment came after Turkish police surrounded the municipality building at dawn today.

Before imposing the trustee, Turkish authorities had sentenced the municipality's co-mayor, Mohammad Alkan, to six years and three months in prison on February 20.

Additionally, the Turkish judiciary sentenced the mayor of Van, Abdullah Zeydan, to three years and nine months in prison during a ruling session at the Fifth High Criminal Court in Amed, North Kurdistan.

The Turkish authorities had previously seized the municipalities of Mardin, Elih, and Khalfeti) on November 4 by appointing trustees. They also arrested the co-mayor of Khalfeti.
