"Turkish attacks risk ISIS mercenaries escape"

As part of his ongoing tour in the European Parliament in Strasbourg, France, Abdul Karim Omar, the representative of the Autonomous Administration of NE Syria, delivered a speech at the meeting of the Green Party bloc in the parliament on December 17, 2024.

In his speech, Abdul Karim Omar discussed the situation in Syria following the fall of the oppressive Ba'athist regime. He stressed the need for the international community, especially the European Union, to closely monitor the situation in Syria to achieve national and democratic change for Syria's future. He emphasized the importance of involving all components of the Syrian people in the political process, especially the Kurdish people and the components of North and East Syria, in order to build a new, decentralized, and democratic Syria as a shared homeland for all Syrians.

Omar addressed the attacks carried out by mercenaries of the Turkish occupying state on Tal Rifaat and al-Shahba, where crimes were committed against unarmed civilians, leading to a renewed forced displacement of the people of the region and Afrin. He also highlighted the attack on Manbij and its occupation with direct Turkish support, which resulted in further killings, massacres, violations, and a new wave of displacement to safe areas in North and East Syria.

Omar also pointed to the Turkish occupation's mobilization of forces and its mercenaries to attack Kobani, the city that has become a symbol of freedom and resistance against ISIS mercenaries. He called on parliamentarians to assume their responsibilities, warning that the continuation of these attacks could lead to the escape of thousands of ISIS mercenaries from detention centers and tens of thousands of their families from the camps, which would have catastrophic consequences for the region and the international community.

In a press statement issued yesterday, Tuesday, by the Security Council, following a meeting on Syria, the Council emphasized the importance of preventing ISIS mercenaries and other 'terrorist' groups from re-establishing their capabilities and denying them safe havens in Syria. They also stressed that Syria must comply with all relevant Security Council resolutions regarding unconventional weapons and urged Syria to cooperate with international efforts.

It is worth noting that on December 16, the representative of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria met with the Leftist parties' bloc in the European Parliament in Strasbourg, France.
