Security Council stresses importance of preventing ISIS from re-establishing its capabilities in Syria

In a press statement issued yesterday, by the Security Council, hours after a meeting it held on Syria, it stressed the importance of fighting “terrorism” in Syria, and the members of the Council referred to the obligations of all parties under the Council’s resolutions related to fighting “terrorism,” especially Resolutions 1267, 1989, and 2253, and the resolutions related to the situation in Syria.

Members stressed in particular the importance of preventing ISIS mercenaries and other “terrorist” groups from re-establishing their capabilities, and depriving them of safe haven in Syria.

They also stressed that Syria must comply with all relevant Security Council resolutions regarding non-conventional weapons. They called on Syria to cooperate with international efforts.

ISIS mercenaries intensified their attacks on the Syrian geography, after the fall of Bashar al-Assad's regime, and the Turkish occupation state intensified its attacks against NE Syria, which led to undermining the process of combating ISIS cells in the region.

Yesterday, Tuesday, an ISIS mercenary cell consisting of four mercenaries riding motorcycles targeted the university checkpoint in the Al-Kasrat area, south of the city of Raqqa.

The attack led to the martyrdom of two members of the Internal Security Forces, and the injury of two other members, in addition to the injury of a civilian who was passing near the checkpoint.
