Truth about exchange of 2nd batch of prisoners, detainees in Aleppo

Numerous websites reported that a prisoner and detainee exchange took place in Aleppo between the parties to the "Aleppo" agreement concluded between the General Council of the Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh neighborhoods and representatives of the Damascus authorities. However, reliable sources denied this to ANHA's agency.

The sources confirmed that preparations are underway for the exchange of the second batch of prisoners and detainees in accordance with Article 12 of the agreement, which stipulates "clearing prisons by both parties in Aleppo Governorate and exchanging all prisoners captured after liberation."

The source did not specify the timing of the implementation, as it has not yet been determined. It also noted that the authority authorized to determine the timing of the event is the ongoing coordination channels between the two parties, which are working to implement the terms of the agreement in their entirety and are responsible for determining the time, place, and mechanism for implementation.

The source also did not rule out the possibility of the second batch being exchanged in the coming days, within this week.

It is worth noting that the first provisions of the agreement concluded between the General Council of the Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh Neighborhoods and the Damascus authorities were implemented by clearing the prisons on April 3, two days after the signing. This resulted in the release of 146 prisoners and detainees, as well as 97 members of the Damascus authorities.
