U.S. President Donald Trump said in remarks to Fox News that he had canceled a visit by an American delegation that was scheduled to travel to Islamabad for talks with Iranian officials.

The U.S. president explained that he told both Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner not to make the trip, saying that traveling for 18 hours “would be pointless” without real signs of progress in the discussions.

Donald Trump added that the decision came after an assessment that the potential talks would not produce tangible results, describing a trip to Islamabad at this stage as “talking about nothing.”

The decision raises questions about the future of diplomatic efforts between Washington and Tehran, especially amid rising tensions in the region and attempts by international mediators to encourage both sides to resume dialogue and reduce the chances of escalation.
