Transitional govt. siege affects educational process

In a statement issued today, the Education Committee in the Democratic Society highlighted the repercussions of the siege imposed by the transitional government on the Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh neighborhoods, specifically on the education sector.

The statement was read by committee member Rosa Khalil at the Martyr Qahraman School in Sheikh Maqsoud, Aleppo.

The statement said: “The siege imposed by the transitional government in Syria on the Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh neighborhoods has caused a disruption in the supply of heating diesel, resulting in students being unable to attend school.”

It added, “We are suffering greatly from the siege, which affects mental and physical health as well as the educational process, and if the situation continues, students will completely drop out of school.”

The statement called for the lifting of the siege in accordance with the April 1 agreement signed between the transitional government in Syria and the councils of Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh, ensuring the continuity of the educational process in both neighborhoods.

Since September, the transitional government in Syria has been imposing a siege on the Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh neighborhoods, preventing the entry of basic goods and fuel.
