Dignity Strike enters 4th day in predominantly Alawite cities, countrysides

The Dignity Strike continues for the fourth day in predominantly Alawite areas, with shops closed and schools disrupted, in response to a call from Sheikh Ghazal Ghazal.

Cities and rural areas with an Alawite majority, particularly in the Syrian coast and interior, are witnessing a fourth consecutive day of strikes in response to a call from Sheikh Ghazal Ghazal, head of the Supreme Alawite Islamic Council.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported an almost complete closure of shops in the city of Masyaf and its villages, as well as in the eastern and western countryside of Hama, amid a noticeable quiet in the streets, and students' absence from schools.

In Homs, some school principals threatened absent students with expulsion and deregistration, and summoned their parents to review the school administrations.

The strike follows Sheikh Ghazal Ghazal's call for members of the Alawite community to participate in a five-day general strike, encompassing areas of Latakia, Jableh, Tartus, Safita, and Dreikish, in addition to large parts of the Hama countryside, especially the city of Masyaf and its suburbs.
