At the Raqqa-Maadan checkpoint, controlled by the Syrian Transitional Government south of Raqqa, dozens of young men were arrested and taken to an anonymous destination. The arrests occurred as the men were traveling on Pullman buses from areas in North and East Syria Region towards Deir ez-Zor and other parts of Syria.

According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, the operation was carried out suddenly, as the young men were got off the buses and taken away by security personnel, causing concern and anger among the passengers.

This incident comes amid heightened security measures in the region recently, raising fears of a wider wave of arrests without clear explanation.

The road between Maadan and Raqqa has been closed to traffic until further notice, with no information available regarding the duration of the closure.
