Transitional Govt. factions kidnap two young men from Sheikh Maqsoud- Ashrafieh

Both young men, Bankin Abboud (second-year Civil Engineering) and Ahmad Walid Omar (first-year Civil Engineering), from Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh, were kidnapped by factions of the transitional government stationed around the two neighborhoods.

According to sources close to the families of the kidnapped, the two students were returning from their university sessions at the Civil Engineering College at the University of Aleppo, with their last contact made at 12:00 PM.

Eyewitnesses from al-Siryan, specifically on Al-Zuhur Street leading to Ashrafieh, confirmed that the two young men were kidnapped at gunpoint by transitional government factions at 12:30 PM today, with no clear reason given for the abduction.

Our agency obtained a written appeal from the families of the students, which reads as follows:

We, the parents of students Bankin Abboud and Ahmad Walid Omar, urgently inform you that we lost contact with our children today at 12:00 PM while they were heading to their university in the morning.

According to the information received, our children were arbitrarily stopped at the “Al-Zuhur checkpoint” without any legal justification, simply because they reside in the neighborhoods of Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh.

We would like to emphasize that both students are university attendees with no involvement in any political conflicts or activities; their sole objective is to continue their education.

We demand immediate intervention to determine their whereabouts and secure their release to ensure their academic future.

We stress the importance of keeping students safe from conflicts and providing secure passage that allows them to reach their educational institutions and universities without harassment or arbitrary detention.

We hope that the concerned authorities will act swiftly to address this matter from a humanitarian and legal perspective.
