Transitional Forces block another key road to Sheikh Maqsoud in Aleppo

Transitional government forces have closed a new road leading to the Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh neighborhoods, following previous closures of several other routes connecting the two neighborhoods in Aleppo.

There are seven main roads—Lyermon Roundabout, Jandoul Roundabout, Al-Hadika Road, Shehan Roundabout, Ashrafieh Slope, Al-Awarid, and Al-Jazeera—which form the primary connection between Sheikh Maqsoud, Ashrafieh, and other areas of Aleppo.

In recent days, Transitional government forces began erecting earthen barriers on Lyermon Road, west of Sheikh Maqsoud, and on Jandoul Roundabout, north of Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh.

This evening, barriers were raised near Al-Jalaa Club, cutting off passage to Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh.

According to the agreement reached on 1 April between the General Council of Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh neighborhoods and representatives of the transitional government in Aleppo, seven joint checkpoints were to be established by the Public Security and Internal Security forces along these main roads.

These checkpoints were intended to implement several provisions, including clauses (3), (5), and (8).

However, the operation of these joint checkpoints has been disrupted due to the erection of earthen barriers and road closures by transitional government forces.
