Tishrin Dam out of service for 7 days

Tishrin Dam, located in the countryside of Manbij Canton, NE Syria, has been out of service for about 7 days following the latest attacks launched by the Turkish occupation and its mercenaries on December 10th against the dam and its surroundings.

The Turkish occupation and its mercenaries began a major offensive on December 8th in the regions of North and East Syria, with a heavy focus on Manbij, the Qereqozaqê Bridge, and Tishrin Dam.

As the battles intensified around Tishrin Dam, the Turkish occupation and its mercenaries carried out aerial and ground strikes on the dam, causing significant damage and rendering the dam facility out of service.

The dam going offline has led to a complete power outage across the Manbij and Euphrates Cantons.

Construction of Tishrin Dam began in 1980 on the Euphrates River and was completed in 1999. The dam fell under the control of ISIS mercenaries between 2013 and 2015, before being liberated by the Syrian Democratic Forces in 2015.

Less than a year later, the Energy Body in the Euphrates Canton completed maintenance of the dam, and it fully resumed operations in 2016, supplying the cities and areas of Manbij and the Euphrates with electricity.

During intermittent periods of the dam's operation over the past years, Turkey deliberately cut off the flow of the Euphrates River's water multiple times, causing a drop in the water level of the lake formed behind the dam.
