Theft of agricultural crops continues in Afrin

Returning displaced residents of Afrin have confirmed that their property and agricultural crops continue to be subjected to theft and looting, saying that settlers who remain in the area are seizing the harvest and selling it in local markets.

Despite the return of displaced residents to their hometowns under the January 29 agreement, their property and agricultural produce continue to be looted.

One resident, who requested anonymity, said that the sumac harvesting season has begun in the region, but settlers are stealing the crop by harvesting it before it ripens and putting it up for sale.

He added that such practices are taking place in several villages across Afrin, noting that local residents are still unable to benefit from the produce of their own lands.

Meanwhile, residents said that promises to restore the homes and property of returning displaced families have not been fully implemented, stressing that many houses and agricultural lands remain under the control of settler families.

Local sources also reported that theft and looting continue in Afrin city and its surrounding countryside, amid growing calls to end these violations and restore property to its rightful owners.
