Kurdish man arrested at General Security checkpoint in Raqqa

General Security personnel at the Al-Hamrat checkpoint in Raqqa arrested a Kurdish man while he was passing through the checkpoint, alleging that he had served in the ranks of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).

General Security personnel stationed at the Al-Hamrat checkpoint in Raqqa arrested a 30-year-old Kurdish man, identified as Aqid, on Monday morning. He is originally from the countryside of Afrin.

According to local sources, checkpoint personnel ordered the man off a passenger bus traveling to Qamishlo, claiming that he had worked with the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF). The sources said he was beaten and verbally abused in front of the other passengers before being taken to one of the security headquarters for further questioning.

The sources added that the man had been traveling from Aleppo to Qamishlo to work at a local restaurant in order to provide for himself and his family. He remains in detention.

They also stated that the Al-Hamrat checkpoint has arrested more than ten Kurdish youths over the past two weeks.
