TEV-DEM congratulates on occasion of Eid al-Fitr, Nowruz

The Democratic Society Movement (TEV-DEM) released a written statement today on the occasion of Nowruz, saying: “On the occasion of Nowruz, the holiday that embodies the meanings of freedom, renewal, and resistance in the conscience of our people, and its coincidence with the blessed Eid al-Fitr, the holiday of mercy and tolerance, the Democratic Society Movement (TEV-DEM) extends its warmest congratulations to our Kurdish people throughout Kurdistan, and to all the peoples of the region and the world.

Nowruz is not merely a festive occasion, but a living historical symbol of the will of resistance against oppression, and an expression of the renewed spirit of revival carried by our people throughout the centuries. From this perspective, we salute the sons and daughters of our people in Rojhelat (Eastern Kurdistan), who confront policies of repression and denial with firm determination and continue their legitimate struggle for freedom and dignity.

On this occasion, we also affirm the importance of the physical freedom of Leader Abdullah Ocalan as a fundamental step toward achieving peace and stability in the region, and we call for his release and for enabling him to play his role in advancing a fair democratic solution to the Kurdish issue.

The unity and cohesion of the Kurdish ranks today represent a historical necessity that cannot be delayed. Accordingly, we call for turning Nowruz into a unifying struggle milestone, to be crowned with the holding of a comprehensive Kurdistani national conference that brings together various political and social forces to formulate a shared vision and unified strategy for the future of our people.

At the same time, Eid al-Fitr embodies noble human values of tolerance, love, and solidarity. We hope this holiday will be an occasion to strengthen the spirit of brotherhood among all components and mark the beginning of a stage dominated by peace and coexistence, away from conflicts and divisions.

In TEV-DEM, we believe that resistance stems from the will of peoples to live freely, and that it does not contradict the values of peace, but rather complements them and gives them their true meaning.

In conclusion, we call on all national and democratic forces to unite efforts and work together to build a future based on freedom, justice, and democracy.

May our people be well every year — blessed Nowruz and happy Eid al-Fitr.”
