Tens of thousands in Kobani attend funeral of 10 martyrs 

The Families of Martyrs Council in Kobani organized the funeral ceremony today for ten SDF fighters who were martyred during what was described as the “Dignity Resistance,” in the presence of SDF General Commander Mazloum Abdi, SDF General Command members Siban Hamo and Mahmoud Barkhadan, Co-Chair of the Autonomous Administration’s Department of Foreign Relations Ilham Ahmed, Democratic Union Party (PYD) Presidential Council member Foza Youssef, and tens of thousands of residents from Kobani and its countryside.

The martyred fighters were identified as Jia Qamishlo (real name Nasser Mohammad), was martyred in Kobani on March 1, 2026; Baz Kobani (Mohammad Mamo), was martyred in Deir ez-Zor on January 20, 2026; Mazloum Amin (Adel Amin), was martyred in Deir ez-Zor on January 20, 2026; Lazgin Kobani (Adnan Khalil), was martyred in Deir ez-Zor in January 2026; Ahmad Tekoshin (Murad Jatin), was martyred in Sarrin on January 24, 2026; Dilsuz Halinj (Mustafa Mohammad), was martyred in Deir ez-Zor on January 17, 2026; Sharfan Sere Kaniye (Suleiman al-Mohammad), was martyred in Deir ez-Zor on January 18, 2026; Mazloum Kobani (Mahmoud Saleh Muslim), was martyred in Deir ez-Zor on January 18, 2026; Kivara Kobani (Diyar Mahmoud), was martyred in Deir ez-Zor on January 18, 2026; and Rojhat Kobani (Hokar Juma), was martyred in Deir ez-Zor on January 17, 2026.

After a moment of silence, a member of the Leader Apo Freedom Initiative and the wife of martyr PYD Presidential Council member Salih Muslim said the legacy of the martyrs would be protected, stressing that “we have the right to live according to the path of these martyrs and keep it alive, because they resisted so that we could live in freedom. Unlike the violations committed by mercenaries against our martyrs, we will always protect the achievements they made.”

Mazloum Abdi confirms imminent release of 300 detainees

Speaking at the ceremony, SDF General Commander Mazloum Abdi said the fighters had made exceptional sacrifices, adding, “These martyrs carried out an unparalleled struggle, and we made great efforts to recover their bodies. We promise the families of the martyrs that we will bring back all of them and lay them to rest in the sacred soil of the homeland in the martyrs’ cemeteries.”

Addressing the issue of detainees, he said the SDF is working to secure their release, noting that “in the coming days, about 300 detainees whose names and documents have been received will be released and returned to their families. At the same time, we pledge to our people that we will protect the legacy of the revolution so that our children can speak their language, learn in their mother tongue, and take pride in their Kurdish identity. We will continue our struggle to guarantee Kurdish rights in Syria’s future constitution, and we will remain committed to the path of the martyrs.”

Following the speeches, the Families of Martyrs Council read the fighters’ records and handed them to their relatives, after which the bodies were buried amid chants pledging loyalty to their memory.
