KJAR calls for internationalization of Zeynab Jalalian’s case

Today, Saturday, March 14, the KJAR sent an official message to Germany MP Cansu Özdemir, expressing appreciation for her position and emphasizing that her support represents a political and moral responsibility toward women striving for freedom.

In the opening of the message, the KJAR noted that Özdemir’s public commitment to defending Zeynab Jalalian reflects an important humanitarian and political stance, stressing that this support must be transformed into international pressure to end the suffering of the political prisoner serving a life sentence in Iran, according to NUJINHA News Agency.

The KJAR highlighted that Zeynab Jalalian is considered the first political prisoner in Iran sentenced to life imprisonment until death, a ruling that not only violates the most basic human rights but is accompanied by long years of torture and denial of medical care.

The KJAR cited excerpts from Jalalian’s own letters describing harsh prison conditions, including skin, psychological, and neurological illnesses caused by isolation, poor nutrition, and lack of medical attention.

The KJAR emphasized that Jalalian’s steadfastness over twenty years in Iranian prisons has made her a “symbol of women’s struggle,” noting that her ability to transform the silence of the cells into a “poem of freedom” has alarmed Iranian authorities.

It added that “we must all be the voice of Zeynab Jalalian. Your message represents your responsibility toward all women seeking freedom, and as a supportive political figure, you can raise her case to the international level.”

Cansu Özdemir, a member of the German Left Party in the Bundestag, announced via social media on Friday, March 13, her pledge to provide all forms of political and international support for Zeynab Jalalian, describing her case as “a clear example of the repression of political activists and ethnic minorities in Iran.”

She also noted the continuation of the human rights defenders’ support program within the German parliament and confirmed that she would act as Jalalian’s “political sponsor,” ensuring international follow-up on her case based on the principle that “human rights are non-negotiable.”
