Syrian Embassy in Lebanon suspends its work until further notice

The Syrian Embassy in Beirut announced today the suspension of consular work until further notice, based on the directives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates in Damascus.

The embassy called, in a statement, on Syrians residing in Lebanon to follow its official accounts on virtual social media sites to view any announcements related to the resumption of consular work.

Earlier, the Chargé d'Affairs of the Syrian Embassy in Lebanon, Ali Daghman, confirmed that "the embassy continues its work despite the challenges."

He explained that the embassy "continues to provide basic services to citizens, such as extending passports and issuing transit cards for those wishing to return to Syria, in addition to registering them consularly according to the available documents."

He said: "Unfortunately, the immigration and passport system in Syria has suffered significant damage," explaining that "this damage has affected the ability to issue new passports."

The Chargé d'Affairs of the Syrian Embassy in Lebanon added that "the embassy is trying to address some procedures that required prior approvals directly within its current capabilities."
