Syrian artist Diala al-Wadi murdered in Damascus

Syrian artist Diala Solh al-Wadi was murdered inside her home in the al-Maliki neighborhood of Damascus yesterday evening, under mysterious circumstances, shocking the Syrian artistic community.

Local sources reported that the perpetrators chased Diala to the entrance of her home, then broke in and committed the crime, before fleeing to an unknown location.

At the time of writing, the transitional government authorities had not commented on the incident, leaving the mystery surrounding the crime.

Diala al-Wadi is the daughter of the renowned Syrian musician Solh al-Wadi, founder of the Higher Institute of Music in Damascus. In addition to her Syrian citizenship, she holds Iraqi and British citizenship. She graduated from the Higher Institute of Dramatic Arts in the class of 1986, which included a group of prominent Syrian artists, including Hatem Ali and Ghassan Massoud.

In a related development, the body of media activist Kindi Al-Adai was found hanged on Sunday inside his apartment in the Al-Joura neighborhood of Deir ez-Zor, after his return from Germany about a month ago.

Al-Adai was a well-known media activist in Germany during the years of the Syrian revolution, before recently returning to Syria and beginning to shed light on the events taking place inside Syria.
