Syria resumes frog exports after years of suspension

The Hama Environment Directorate announced the registration of the first application to export frogs in years, a move reflecting a gradual return to agricultural activities related to frog farming, coinciding with improved conditions and the return of residents to their homes.

The head of the Natural Resources Safety Department at the Directorate, Sawsan al-Hamoud, told the media that frog farms have begun to gradually resume operations after a long period of inactivity due to displacement and the destruction of infrastructure in recent years.

Al-Hamoud explained that export operations are subject to regulatory requirements, most notably obtaining an environmental permit from the Ministry of Local Administration and Environment, in addition to approval from the Biodiversity Directorate, to ensure compliance with environmental standards and the preservation of the natural balance.

She indicated that this activity had witnessed remarkable growth since the 1980s before declining significantly during the years of the crisis.
