Factions affiliated with the transitional government, deployed around the Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh neighborhoods of Aleppo, abducted on December 27 two university students—Bankin Aboud (second-year civil engineering) and Ahmad Walid Omar (first-year civil engineering)—while they were returning from their university classes.

According to ANHA correspondent in Aleppo, student Ahmad Walid Omar was released 24 hours after his abduction, while his colleague Bankin Aboud remained in captivity until this evening, when he was released shortly ago and returned to his family home.

This incident comes amid popular and human rights calls to keep students out of political disputes and to ensure their safe access to universities and educational institutions.
