Statement from women organization and human rights activists commenting on European Council decision regarding the leader

The Council of Zenobia Women's Gathering and the Union of Tabqa Canton Lawyers in North and East Syria denounced the system of torture and extermination imposed in Imrali prison against the leader Abdullah Ocalan, during a statement.

Statement that was delivered in front of the building of the Social Justice Council in Tabqa Canton, along with members of the Zenobia Women’s Gathering and human rights activists, male and female representatives of the Democratic Autonomous-Administration, representatives of civil society organizations, and the Future Syria Party Council.

It read: “We are on the cusp of the anniversary of the international conspiracy against the leader Abdullah Ocalan, and the intensification of the torture regime imposed on the leader is nothing but a continuation of the international conspiracy that began its first steps from the ninth of October 1998 to this day, and it is nothing but a breach and violation of all conventions and international laws.”

The statement indicated that the European Council's Ministerial Committee issuing a warning to Turkey regarding the leader was insufficient and unfair, and considered it procrastination.

The statement continued: “The same court decided on March 18, 2014 that the life sentence without parole imposed on leader Abdullah Ocalan constitutes a violation of the principle of the right to hope contained in the European Convention on Human Rights.”

The statement concluded by calling on "all humanitarian organizations influential in international affairs to put pressure on the Turkish authorities to lift this strict regime, release leader Abdullah Ocalan, and implement the right to hope, which has become a need, a historical necessity, and a demand for all the peoples of the region."
