Sources: Trump’s national security team reconsidering its strategy toward Gaza

The American site Axios quoted sources today saying that President Donald Trump’s national security team is reconsidering its strategy toward Gaza.

According to the site, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who appeared frustrated, told a group of hostage families on Friday after the failure of the latest Gaza talks: “We need to seriously rethink.”

Axios quoted an informed source saying that during his meeting with hostage families at the State Department on Friday, Rubio repeatedly said the administration needs to “reconsider” its Gaza strategy and “offer new options to the president.”

The site reported that “after six months of his presidency, President Trump is still far from ending the Gaza war. The humanitarian crisis is worse than ever, negotiations are stalled, and the U.S. and Israel are increasingly isolated internationally.”

The American site noted that “the collapse of the ceasefire talks may be a turning point in the administration’s policy toward the Gaza war.”

It highlighted that “Israeli officials are uncertain whether Trump’s talk about eliminating Hamas is a negotiating tactic or a green light for Netanyahu to use more extreme military measures.”

Axios cited Israeli officials saying that “White House officials say Trump is upset by the killing of Palestinians and wants to end the war, but he has not pressured Netanyahu to do so. Trump told Netanyahu, ‘Do what you have to do in Gaza,’ in most calls and meetings, and in some cases encouraged him to take a tougher stance against Hamas.”
