Signature campaign to meet with Leader Ocalan extended after over 2,000 participants

With the launch of the signature-collection campaign across Syria calling for a meeting with Leader Abdullah Ocalan, the campaign has been extended due to the high turnout. Within 12 days, 2,006 people have signed their names in support of the demand to hold a meeting with the Leader.

The Syrian Initiative for the Freedom of Leader Abdullah Ocalan and the Syrian Lawyers’ Initiative to Defend Leader Abdullah Ocalan launched the campaign, titled “I Want to Meet Abdullah Ocalan”, on August 20, 2025. The initiative has sought signatures from intellectuals, academics, politicians, community leaders, and tribal elders throughout Syria.

The statement released at the campaign’s launch noted that it would end on August 30, while also leaving open the possibility of an extension depending on demand.

Speaking to ANHA agency on Sunday, Ferzenda Munther, spokesperson for the Initiative for Leader Ocalan’s Freedom in Syria, said that over 800 signatures had already been collected. He added that a press conference was planned for September 1 (today) to provide more detailed information.

Campaign Extension

According to information provided by Ferzenda Munther, the campaign has been extended until September 10 due to strong public interest. As a result, no official statement will be released today.

Munther explained that the campaign has reached across religious and community lines, including Muslims, Christians, Druze, Yazidis, Alawites, Ismailis, and Sunnis. It has also expanded geographically, covering Damascus, Salamiya, Sweida, Tartus, Homs, Latakia, and Hama, in addition to Kurdish, Arab, and Syriac-Assyrian neighborhoods, as well as Circassians and Armenians. Syrians living abroad have also submitted their names in support of meeting with Leader Abdullah Ocalan.

2,006 Participants

Munther noted that the original goal was to gather 1,000 signatures, but participation has continued to grow. “Since the beginning of the campaign until now, 2,006 people have joined,” he said.

Results to Be Announced on September 21

Regarding the acceptance of names and the announcement of the campaign’s final results, Munther stated: “In order to present all the names and affiliations to the public, the committee will review them according to specific criteria (such as community leaders, academics, etc.). The final results of the campaign will be announced on September 21, recognized by the United Nations as the International Day of Peace.”
