Leader Ocalan: “Call for Peace” marks beginning of new era beyond wars

Leader Ocalan sent a message to a conference held in Hawler, Southern Kurdistan, under the title “Turkey’s Difficult Peace: Disarmament of the PKK and Political Turning Points in an Unstable Geopolitical Context”, organized on the occasion of Peace Day, which is marked every year on September 1.

The message was read during the conference, organized by the Rudaw Research Center, by MP Medhat Sancar from the People’s Equality and Democracy Party (DEM) and a member of the DEM’s delegation to Imrali.

The Leader's message stated: “Greetings to you, and I congratulate the Rudaw Research Center for organizing this conference, especially as it carries the title (Turkey’s Difficult Peace).

This title reflects the truth. Over the past 40 years of our experience, we have come to realize through bitter lessons how difficult the conditions and possibilities of achieving peace are.

This time as well, we have obtained the opportunity for peace ‘with difficulty,’ but we are striving with utmost sensitivity and ability for this opportunity to yield results.

If this process succeeds in Turkey, it will change the future of the entire Middle East, and a new era will begin; one where democratic life supported by peace replaces wars and destruction.

What I propose is for the Kurds to harmonize with states that allow them the possibility of democratic social relations. I describe this as ‘unification on the basis of a democratic society.’

This process that we are undertaking is tied to this foundation, and I believe it will succeed.

I also believe that relations among Kurds themselves should be built on the basis of democratic unity, and I call on all Kurds to come together and unite on a democratic ground.

I hope your conference proceeds successfully. My greetings and heartfelt respect to you.
