Siege imposed on Shahba prevents kidney patients from receiving treatment

The dialysis center in Afrin and Shahba canton is one of the centers that the Damascus government’s siege has had a negative impact on, as there are 13 kidney patients in Shahba.

The director of the dialysis center, Hussein Mustafa, explained: “Our patients undergo dialysis 3 or 4 times a week, but the Damascus government’s siege on Shahba caused the number to be reduced to once a week, and patients are also unable to reach the center due to the lack of fuel and the lack of medicines as well.” "It causes a big problem for us."

Mustafa pointed out that one of the hospital’s two cars stopped working due to the lack of fuel. He explained: “The dialysis center’s equipment is not working due to the siege. Our work depends entirely on electricity, and the continuation of this siege will exacerbate the suffering and condition of kidney patients, as they come from faraway places and need... to medicines, they also buy medicines that are not available to us from outside the center at very high prices.”

Hussein Mustafa called on: "Humanitarian organizations to feel the suffering of people and lift this siege on them."

The displaced person from Afrin, Toulin Mohammad, who now lives in Tal Rifaat and is a kidney patient, said: “I have been undergoing dialysis sessions for a year and a half and my condition is bad. I buy injections every Thursday, and this is very difficult. I also suffer a lot in providing blood, and I buy blood injections from Aleppo at very high prices.”

Toulin Muhammad explained: “I am suffering from many difficulties, and the siege is putting us in danger, so we hope that the siege on the region will be lifted.”
