Siblings of Imrali detainees submit new request to visit them

Today, leader Abdullah Ocalan’s brother, Muhammad Ocalan, through his lawyer Mazlum Dinç, along with Omar Khairi Kunar’s brother, Ali Kunar, Hamili Yildirim's brother, Polat Yildirim, and Veysi Aktaş’s sister, Meliha Aktaş, submitted a new request to the Public Prosecutor’s Office in the Turkish city of Bursa and the Directorate of Imrali Prison to meet with their relatives.

Lawyers from the Al-Asr Human Rights Office submit two requests each week to the Public Prosecutor’s Office in Bursa and the Imrali Prison Directorate to meet with their clients. Their families also submit two requests weekly, amounting to a total of 16 requests per month, without receiving any response.

It is worth noting that the last meeting with the leader by his lawyers, Rezan Sarıca and Newroz Uysal, took place on August 7, 2019. This was followed by a phone call with his brother Muhammad Ocalan on March 25, 2021, which lasted five minutes before the call was cut off.

On October 23, 2024, after four years of interruption, leader Abdullah Ocalan met directly with his nephew, Omar Ocalan. During the meeting, the leader conveyed a message, stating: "The isolation continues, but if the conditions are provided, I have the theoretical and practical strength to shift this process from the ground of conflict and violence to the ground of law and politics."

A delegation from the Equality and Peoples’ Democracy Party, including MPs Sirri Sureyya Onder and Pervin Buldan, met with leader Abdullah Ocalan in Imrali Prison on December 28, 2024.

Meanwhile, the system of torture and extermination in Imrali continues, and leader Abdullah Ocalan is deprived of his rights even as a prisoner, through the renewal of what Turkish authorities call "disciplinary penalties."
