Security, military agreements between Israel, transitional govt in Syria before 2025 end

A source in the Foreign Ministry of the transitional government told the France-Presse Agency  on Thursday that the transitional government in Syria and Israel are heading towards concluding "successive agreements" before the end of this year.

The source, preferred not to admit its identity, made clear that "there is tangible progress in talks with the Israeli side," noting that the expected agreements will be "primarily security and military."

It added that these agreements come within the context of ongoing efforts to consolidate "the ceasefire and enhance stability on the southern border," without revealing further details about the content or timing of the agreements.

On Wednesday, Ahmed al-Sharaa referred in general terms to the latest developments in his government's talks with Israel, following reports that Tel Aviv had presented his government a detailed proposal for a new security agreement, including a map of proposed areas extending from southwest Damascus to the border with Israel.

It stated that Washington is not pressuring Damascus to reach an agreement with Israel, and that security talks with Israel may yield results in the coming days.

He continued, "If the security agreement succeeds, other agreements may be held, but peace and normalization are not on the table now."

It stated that an agreement with Israel is necessary, adding, "It must respect Syria's airspace and territorial integrity."
