SDC: Kurdish unity is a historic step that expresses the will to live
The Syrian Democratic Council affirmed that unifying the Kurdish ranks is "a historic step that expresses the will to live and the resilience of the collective spirit in the face of decades of attempts at elimination and marginalization."

The Syrian Democratic Council issued a written statement today regarding the conference "Unity of Kurdish Position and Stance in Rojava Kurdistan," which read:
"For decades, the Kurds in Syria have been a living symbol of national suffering and injustice. On their homeland, they have endured two bitter experiences: the bitterness of oppression that has befallen all Syrians seeking freedom and dignity, and the bitterness of national persecution that has targeted their existence and their natural right to life. They have been subjected to imprisonment, detention, and displacement, and have been deprived of their most basic rights. They have been at the forefront of those who have paid the price of the struggle for a democratic Syria for all its people.
In this national context, we welcome the convening of the conference to unify the Kurdish position and stance in Syria, and we bless this historic step that expresses the will to live and the resilience of the collective spirit in the face of decades of Attempts at elimination and marginalization.
We support efforts to unify the Kurdish national position within the framework of a comprehensive Syrian project that believes that the Kurdish issue is not a sectarian or regional issue, but rather an integral part of the battle for freedom and justice waged by the entire Syrian people.
Unifying the Kurdish ranks today is a fundamental pillar in building Syrian national unity. Just as the Kurds were part of the nation's suffering, they are now an integral part of its salvation and reconstruction on the foundations of freedom, democracy, and pluralism.
The effort to heal the rift and unify visions and positions among Kurdish forces and actors necessarily reflects additional strength to the comprehensive Syrian national project, which embraces all components of the country on the basis of equal rights, true partnership, and a shared destiny.
While we salute the organizers and participants of this conference, we see this step as a source of hope for a better future. A future in which energies are united, wills are harmonized, and all components of the Syrian people come together to formulate a new national contract that enshrines the values of justice, restores consideration to all who have been wronged and excluded, and establishes a free, democratic, pluralistic, and decentralized Syria for all its people without discrimination.
