Rojava University administration meets with protesting students

After the Syrian Interim Government took control of Al-Sharq University in Raqqa and merged it with Al-Furat University, hundreds of students were forced to discontinue their studies.

To ensure that students will not be deprived of their education, the administrations of Rojava and Kobani Universities offered the students an opportunity to do their exams of the academic year at both universities. They also transferred many students to faculties and institutes within both universities.

However, due to the lack of an intensive care department at the Faculty of Medical Sciences of Al-Sharq University at Rojava and Kobani Universities, this department's students are unable to continue their studies in their original field.

Consequently, a number of students from this department, originally from the Jazira region, organized a protest in front of the Rojava University building in Qamishlo, seeking a solution to their problem.

A few minutes after the students gathered, the university administration met with them and listened to their demands and proposals.

The students demanded the reopening of their department and indicated that if the university lacked the resources to establish it, they wished to transfer to a department closely related to their specialization.

According to information provided to ANHA agency by students, during the meeting, they explained their situation to the administration which in turn indicated that it would hold a meeting to discuss their situation and find a solution.

The students stated that the total number of students in the Intensive Care Department at Al-Sharq University who hailed from Jazira and Kobani was approximately 60 (35 from Jazira and 25 from Kobani).
