Far-right and nationalist parties achieved (unexpected) gains in the European Parliament elections, raising questions about the reasons for the rise of this right-wing and nationalist tide and its repercussions on political trends within the European Union.

Political relations researcher Abdul Masih al-Shami considered that the rise of the extreme right in the European Parliament elections is the beginning of a major transformation in Europe, and that the face of Europe has begun to change, as a result of the failure of traditional parties to solve economic and political crises.

Abdul Masih al-Shami pointed out that the rise of the extreme right in the European Parliament, not only through its control of the European Parliament, but also reflects a general popular mood within Europe, and it truly expresses the shift that has occurred greatly recently in the European street from moderation to the right. .

The researcher in political relations believes that there are various reasons for this transformation, including those related to internal issues such as waves of asylum (and terrorism) and the Islamist tide that began sweeping Europe and began to threaten European identity, in addition to the Ukrainian war and the failure of traditional parties to solve economic and political crises.

Al-Shami explained that the extreme right benefited from the problems that Europe entered after the major trend toward armament and entry into global conflicts, and pulled them to its advantage, whereby it was able to win votes in the elections.

The researcher in political relations believes that Europe is coming with a largely right-wing, dominant face, and his success in the European Parliament elections means that he is able to rise at a rapid pace in all other institutions, in addition to successes even within European countries.

Al-Shami stressed that Europe, during the next four years, is coming with a clearly defined right-wing face, and this will undoubtedly have consequences on asylum policy and economic policies.

Political relations researcher Abdul Masih al-Shami also suggested that the results of the European elections may be reflected in the context of the Ukrainian war, since the right does not encourage wars, and thus European support for Ukraine will decline, as will the relationship of European countries with NATO. Because the majority of the right are demanding secession from NATO or dismantling the European Union, and therefore there will be many consequences if the right takes control of Europe.
