Representative of Sharabin tribe in Syria-Iraq: civil peace is collective responsibility

Amid the security and social challenges facing the region, tribal and community calls are increasing to enhance civil peace and strengthen the values of coexistence. There is growing emphasis on the importance of social unity, rejecting attempts at incitement and discord, and preserving the social fabric that has characterized the region for decades.

In a special interview, the representative of the Sharabin tribe in Syria and Iraq, Mohammed Aref Al-Hamdoun, told ANHA agency:

“Tribes are a well-established social institution based on a system of customs, traditions, and norms. Throughout history, al-Jazira has been a unifying space for the peoples of the region in all their components and tribes. It has maintained strong social bonds, with its diverse communities sharing both joy and sorrow and living with one spirit.”

Syrian al-Jazira: A Model of Coexistence

He added: “Syrian Al-Jazira lived by the principle of coexistence before this war. As tribes, we bear a social and moral responsibility toward our people, and we categorically reject all forms of discord, incitement, and attempts to undermine morale. We are a social spectrum that has coexisted for hundreds of years, and we always strive to preserve our unity and solidarity for the benefit of all.”

He continued: “We stress the importance of solidarity between Kurdish and Arab tribes. We are one social fabric. Together, we have experienced stages of coexistence and struggle; our history is shared. What we seek today is stability and security for the region and its people.”

Politicized Media Attempts to Ignite Discord Among Communities

Al-Hamdoun pointed out that:  “Some media outlets, driven by politicized decisions and supported by external agendas, attempt to sow discord and undermine civil peace. However, in our councils and among our people, we work to protect all segments and components of our society, as we are a harmonious blend in customs and traditions, living with dignity through our unity and solidarity.”

Support for the January 29 Agreement and a Call for Peace

In concluding his remarks, the representative of the Sharabin tribe in Syria and Iraq, Mohammed Aref Al-Hamdoun, expressed his support for the January 29 agreement between the Syrian Democratic Forces and the Interim Government, stating;

“This agreement played an important role in stopping bloodshed. What we want today is to live in peace and security. We aspire for tribes and communities to coexist according to our morals and values, away from hatred and hostility, without paying attention to those who seek to incite and sow discord among us something we will never accept. What unites us in terms of customs, traditions, and social ties is deeper and stronger than any attempts to divide us.”
