“will of Rojava is stronger than attacks”

During an interview with ANHA agency, writer Fares Othman, a member of the Political Bureau of the Kurdish Progressive Democratic Party in Syria, described “the attacks that targeted Rojava as regrettable,” noting that they came after efforts to reach a final agreement with the Interim Government had failed.

The Aim Was to Break the Will of the Kurdish People

Othman explained that these attacks occurred “among (sons of the same homeland)” and sought to break the will of the Kurdish people and impose an external vision or agenda upon them. However, he emphasized that they failed to achieve their objectives.

He added: “The Kurdish people first rose up in Rojava, then across all parts of Kurdistan. Our people in the diaspora also mobilized alongside the free people of the world, which led to the failure of this plan and prevented the forces behind it from imposing their will.”

Othman pointed out that the attacks ultimately strengthened Kurdish unity, and that the popular response was appropriate, uniting the fate of the Kurdish people in Rojava, the rest of Kurdistan, and the diaspora.

He further noted that public mobilization and demonstrations both inside and outside the country conveyed the voice of the Kurdish people to the world and shed light on the injustice and oppression they face in Rojava Kurdistan.

The Role of the Political Movement

Regarding the role of politicians at this stage, Othman stated:
“Politicians are (sons and daughters of the Kurdish people), each in their respective positions. The Kurdish Progressive Democratic Party in Syria condemned the attacks from the first day and expressed its readiness to stand alongside the people.”

He explained that party cadres contributed to maintaining security and stability in their areas by organizing night patrols. Political forces also issued statements condemning the attacks, adopted a firm stance in confronting the aggression, and stood alongside male and female fighters on the front lines.

He added that “the Kurdish political movement in Syria was ahead of others in understanding the nature of the game played by certain regional states. It communicated with Syrian and broader Kurdish political forces outside Syria to preserve Kurdish unity and strengthen a common position.”

He affirmed the party’s readiness to support any steps that contribute to consolidating Kurdish unity and a shared political stance representing all segments of the Kurdish people, as well as working to convey their demands and achieve them on the ground.”
