Referral of activist Bakhshan Azizi case to Supreme Court in Iran
The Iranian authorities referred the case of activist Bakhshan Azizi, who is detained in Evin Prison and sentenced to death, to the Supreme Court.
The Iranian Human Rights Activists News Agency (Hrana) revealed that the case of women's rights activist Bakhshan Azizi has been referred to the Supreme Court in Iran to issue the final decision on the death sentence issued against her on July 23, 2024.
The Iranian authorities have prevented Bakhshan Azizi from meeting her family and lawyer for 120 days.
The Iranian authorities had arrested Bakhshan Azizi, who hails from the city of Mahabad, eastern Kurdistan, on August 13, 2023. She was transferred to Evin Prison, and was deprived of her right to seek assistance from a lawyer. After 4 months of interrogation, she was transferred to the women's wing of this prison, and on July 23, she was sentenced to death on charges of “membership in groups opposed to the regime” While many women's movements called for her immediate release, while Iran ignored all of these calls.
