Hêvî Arabu, a dedicated activist and a member of the Coordination Committee of Kongra Star, was martyred on January 27 in an attack carried out by the occupying Turkish state in Southern Kurdistan.

In an interview with ANHAagency, Ramziya Mohammed discussed Arabu’s struggle and the broader pattern of targeted attacks against leading women.

At the outset, Mohammed condemned the Turkish state's ongoing aggression against North and East Syria, particularly the assassination of prominent female leaders. She stated: "Through these brutal attacks, they are targeting women who have fought for years to protect their identity, their people, and their freedom."

Despite persistent attempts to silence them, women have played a decisive role in the revolution, achieving significant presence across all fields, she stressed. "The attacks on women are escalating daily, particularly against activists and revolutionary leaders. On the military front, heroines such as Şervîn and Cîhan have been targeted, while in the social sphere, women like Zehra Berkel, Hevrîn Xelef, and Minîce, along with Arab women such as Hind, Saîda, and Kerîm, have been assassinated. These attacks are not confined to North and East Syria but extend across all of Kurdistan. In Southern Kurdistan, figures such as Zozan, Zîlan, and Sozdar have been targeted, with Salîha being the latest victim."

Speaking about the character and struggle of Hêvî Arabu, Mohammed noted that she was a leader who carried out exceptional work among the people of Rojava and across Kurdistan. She worked tirelessly, ensuring inclusivity and unity among all components of North and East Syria.

"Without holding any authoritative position, she led her work with dedication. Her martyrdom is a great loss for the women’s freedom movement, but when we consider our martyrs as the foundation of our revolution, we ensure that our achievements only grow stronger."

Reflecting on her collaboration with Arabu, Mohammed recalled their years of joint efforts in women’s movements and the Autonomous Administration system. She described Arabu as a living embodiment of women’s organization and struggle.

"When you look at Hêvî Arabu, you see the essence of women’s organization, resilience, and beauty. You see the cause and the aesthetic of the free woman. As you walk through different spheres of life in Rojava, you witness her achievements everywhere. She remains an icon of liberated womanhood. From our comrade Hêvî, we have learned how to fight for women’s freedom."
