Qamishlo prepares for Newroz celebration, calls for broad participation

The preparatory committee for the Newroz celebrations in Qamishlo has begun preparing and decorating the March 12th Martyrs Stadium in anticipation of the central celebration, which was postponed and relocated due to inclement weather witnessed in Jazira areas.

The celebration was originally scheduled for March 21st in Hemo Square, but the adverse weather conditions prompted the committee to postpone it to March 24th and move it to the March 12th Stadium to ensure easier access for residents and a suitable atmosphere for the festivities.

Since Monday morning, the stadium has been undergoing extensive decoration, with the raising of Kurdish flags and symbols reflecting cultural identity and folk heritage, along with images of the leader Abdullah Ocalan, the struggler Mazlum Doğan, and the martyrs of the Rojava Revolution.

Firefighters have also dispatched vehicles to wash and clean the stadium's stands after the recent rains witnessed in the area.

The celebrations are scheduled to begin tomorrow, March 24th, at 11:00 AM with the lighting of the Newroz torch.

This year's Newroz celebrations are being held under the slogan "Let's make Newroz a celebration of the leader Apo's freedom and Kurds' democratic unity."

The program includes speeches and various artistic performances, featuring songs, music, and folk dances that reflect the rich heritage of the region's people.

In this context, Yazan Abdel Wahab; the member of the Martyr Welat Band who was helping prepare the stage, called on the residents of Qamishlo and all parts of Jazira region to participate widely in the Newroz celebrations, and to gather at the March 12th Martyrs Stadium to light the Newroz torch. He emphasized that broad public participation reflects the spirit of the holiday and its meanings of freedom and renewal.

Celebrations were held in the cities of Girkê Legê, Derik, and Kobani on March 21st, while celebrations are scheduled for tomorrow in Qamishlo, Hasaka, Amuda, Derbasiya, and Tell Tamer.
