Campaign to limit indiscriminate gunfire in Kobani

Military discipline forces in Kobani launched a campaign on Monday to confiscate unlicensed weapons within the city, as part of efforts to combat the phenomenon of indiscriminate gunfire.

In a statement to ANHA agency, the spokesperson for the Kobani military discipline forces, Miran Koba, said, "We have begun an operation to confiscate weapons due to the recent increase in indiscriminate gunfire within the city, which poses a danger to the lives of civilians."

He added, "When a major attack occurs, some qualified and trained citizens may resort to taking up arms to support our forces in defending the land; however, our goal is to regulate this matter and prevent the uncontrolled use of weapons."

He called on the residents to cooperate in curbing indiscriminate gunfire, confirming that in cooperation with the Internal Security Forces, they will take the necessary measures against anyone who violates the Internal Security Forces' directives in the city.

This campaign comes as a continuation of the emphasis placed by the General Command of the Internal Security Forces (Asayish) in a statement issued on Sunday, in which it affirmed that indiscriminate gunfire is an irresponsible act that disrupts the security system and endangers the lives of innocent people. It further stated that such acts are classified as "flagrant crimes" that warrant immediate arrest and legal prosecution under the "Weapons and Ammunition Law." The Command also stressed that perpetrators of these acts will be deprived of their civil rights, including the right to possess or carry weapons in the future.
