Qamishlo bids farewell to Sirri Sureyya Onder: Great loss for peace and democracy

Today, the Martyrs' Families Council in Qamishlo set up a mourning tent for the martyr of peace and democracy, Sirri Sarya Onder, a prominent member of the Imrali delegation and a deputy of the People's Equality and Democracy Party.

Large crowds from various communities in the Jazira region gathered under the mourning tent for Sirri Sarya Onder, which was erected in front of the Mohammad Sheikho Center for Culture and Art in Qamishlo.

Sirri Sarya Onder, who was of Turkmen origin, became known as the martyr of peace and democracy, as he dedicated his life to defending the Kurdish cause and promoting peaceful coexistence among peoples. He played a prominent role in politics, serving as a deputy in the Turkish parliament and as a member of the Imrali delegation, representing the People's Equality and Democracy Party.

Sirri Sarya Onder, member of the Imrali delegation and deputy of the People's Equality and Democracy Party, passed away on May 3 in the hospital after spending 18 days receiving treatment.

Several pictures of the martyr of peace and democracy, Sirri Sarya Onder, along with leader Abdullah Ocalan, were hung under the mourning tent.

The co-president of the Martyrs' Families Council in the Jazira region, Massoum Hassan, offered condolences to the family of the martyr Sirri Sarya Onder and to leader Abdullah Ocalan, who deeply mourned his loss, as he was a companion and a peace and democracy advocate.

Hassan said, "Martyr Sirri Sarya Onder was an envoy to Imrali. He worked, struggled, and toiled during the difficult years to bring peace and democracy among the peoples. He had clear stances toward the Kurdish people and their cause.

For his part, the co-chair of the Democratic Union Party’s Public Relations Office, Suleiman Arab, stated that martyr Sirri Sarya Onder was an artist, journalist, and political parliamentarian. He faced numerous hardships in his life, including arrests and imprisonments.

Arab clarified that martyr Sirri Sarya Onder knew leader Abdullah Ocalan closely and was a believer in the philosophy of democratic nation. As a member of the Imrali delegation, he fought for peace, despite being of Turkmen origin and not Kurdish. He always sought the truth and worked to bring peace among peoples.

He added, "Such figures are an example for our people and are held in high respect and admiration. His loss is a great one for our people, especially in this critical and important period we are going through, particularly after the historic call by leader Abdullah Ocalan.

The people will continue to visit the mourning tent for the martyr of peace and democracy, Sirri Sarya Onder, until the evening hours of today.
