PYD Women's Council calls for investigation into Syrian coast massacres

The Women's Council in the Democratic Union Party (PYD) issued a statement regarding the recent events in the Syrian coast, in front of the party's general office located on the northern belt in the city of Qamishlo, in the presence of the council's members.

The statement, read by Horiya Shamdin, an official in the Women's Council in the PYD, affirmed that what is happening today in Syria, including acts of genocide and the systematic targeting of children and women, constitutes real war crimes and a violation of all international laws and human rights conventions.

The Women's Council in the Democratic Union Party condemned and denounced all forms of sectarian incitement, violence, and hate speech spreading in Syrian arenas, warning of an escalation that could push the country back to the brink of collapse.

The statement also emphasized the need to hold the perpetrators of these crimes accountable and to launch an urgent international investigation to prosecute those responsible and involved in the bloodshed of the Syrian people.

The Women's Council in the PYD called on the international community, women's organizations and movements, and human rights and humanitarian organizations to take firmer and more tangible stances against the acts of genocide and ethnic cleansing being committed against Alawites in Syria.

The statement called for adopting peaceful dialogue and transitioning to a comprehensive political solution instead of resorting to military solutions to protect Syria from further violence and fragmentation.
