PYD welcomes positive developments in Syria

In a statement, the PYD said that while these developments in Syria are significant, they remain insufficient. It stressed that the Kurdish issue is a fundamental issue in Syria and that the rights of the Kurdish people should form an integral part of the country’s constitutional and political framework.

The party said Kurdish participation in building state institutions and in political, military, administrative and cultural life would strengthen Syria and contribute to enhancing its unity and stability. It added that Syria’s diversity could serve as a genuine source of strength for the country.

In the same context, the PYD stressed the need to complete the process of integrating the Women’s Protection Units (YPJ) into official state institutions, in line with the role and status of women in building a new Syria and ensuring their effective participation in state institutions.

The party said Syria’s new constitution should clearly recognize the Kurdish people as an indigenous people and partner in Syria, as well as recognize the Kurdish language and guarantee the political, cultural and national rights of the Kurdish people, thereby consolidating the principle of genuine partnership among the country’s different peoples and communities.

The PYD noted that Syria is entering a new phase that requires a political and constitutional vision based on democracy, partnership and recognition of diversity, while constitutionally guaranteeing the rights of all peoples and communities.

Concluding its statement, the PYD welcomed the positive steps achieved, stressing that completing them through Syria’s new constitution would pave the way for genuine partnership and the building of a strong Syria founded on its diversity and all its peoples and communities.
