Preparation underway to open one of the largest libraries in NE, Syria

“Shler Publications,” headquartered in Qamishlo, Jazira, is set to open a public library after eight years of dedicated work in NE, Syria.

According to Raman Hassi, an administrator at Shler Publications, the library building has been fully renovated and will include the publishing house’s office, a silent reading room, a hall for study and discussions, a children’s corner, and a cultural café.

The library will offer book lending and reading services across its various sections. Most of the facilities have been completed, and the books have been organized in their designated locations.

The collection currently comprises approximately 6,620 titles spanning literature, science, children’s literature, philosophy, history, folklore, memoirs, and linguistics from Shler Publications as well as other publishers from across Kurdistan, the Middle East, and the world. The total number of books is expected to reach 9,000.

In addition to Kurdish books in Sorani, Zazaki, and Kurmanji dialects, the library will hold volumes in Arabic, Syriac, English, Turkish, Persian, French, and German.

The library will be open daily from 9:00 AM to 11:00 PM.

Raman Hassi stated that the library will be named “Shler Library,” with an official opening ceremony scheduled for August 15.

This institution will rank among the largest libraries in Northeast Syria. The region’s largest library remains the “National Library” in Raqqa, with over 17,000 titles, followed by the “Amara Library” in Qamishlo, which houses 7,270 books.

It is noteworthy that Shler Printing and Publishing was established in 2017 and has published 800 books across various fields to date. In 2025, it officially rebranded as “Shler Publications.”
