Discussing ways to ensure inclusion of Kurdish Language in new Syrian constitution

Kobani University organized a dialogue seminar today titled "Mother Tongue Learning in the New Syria" at the university building in Kobani. The seminar was attended by the co-chairs of the Education Authority in North and East Syria, the co-chairs of the Education Authority in the Euphrates Canton, Kurdish language teachers, members of the Kurdish Language Foundation (SZK), university students, language experts, and Kurdish intellectuals.

The seminar began with a moment of silence in honor of the martyrs. Then, the co-chair of Kobani University, Shervan Muslim, spoke, saying, "A person is known by his identity, and his identity is his language. Everyone must write and read in their mother tongue."

He emphasized, "Years of efforts have been made to promote the Kurdish language, so the right to learn in Kurdish must be included in the new Syrian constitution."

The symposium addressed five main topics, including the Kurdish Language Foundation's projects to develop the Kurdish language, discussed by the head of the language committee at the Kurdish Language Foundation, Nechirvan Abdul Aziz. The symposium also addressed efforts to translate Kurdish texts and the challenges they face, discussed by translator and academic Ahmed Hassan.

Dr. Hiwa Salam also participated via Zoom, discussing the experiences of the Kurdish language in southern Kurdistan. This was followed by discussions on the Education Authority in the new Syria and the position of the Damascus government, presented by Samira Haj Ali, co-chair of the Education Authority in the North and East Syria region. Professor Abdul Karim Alloush also discussed the status of the Kurdish language in the academic field and its future role.
